After graduating from Kimball in 1960, I attended Texas Woman's University and graduated with a B.A. in journalism in 1964. I moved to Houston and was a magazine editor for a trade association for 2 years. I married Marvin Thedford in 1966 and we moved to Killeen, Texas in 1967 where he was stationed at Fort Hood before he went to Viet Nam in '67. After Marvin got out of the Army in '69, we moved to Tyler where we lived for 2 years. We eventually moved to Richardson in '70 when Marvin was transferred to Dallas by Texas Power & Light. My oldest daughter, Mary Helen, was born in '71 and twins, Katherine and Tommy were born in '76. I served on the Board of Directors for the Richardson YWCA, the Richardson Branch of American Association of University Women, Dallas County Aggie Moms, and Canyon Creek Elementary PTA. I was a volunteer for the kids' various schools which led to my being employed at Richardson North Junior High as a secretary/special ed. aide for 7 years. I worked there until '97 when I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and retired. I have just passed the 4 year mark cancer free. I am currently the children's registrar for the James Butler Bonham Chapter of Daughters of the Republic of Texas.
